Crisis Center

Do you have a morning or afternoon a week to give to the Crisis Center?

The shifts are:
9:00 a.m.—12:30 p.m.
12:30 p.m.—4:00 p.m.

The opportunities are:

  • Receptionist

    A receptionist greets the Crisis Center clients, visitors and callers, and directs them according to their need(s).

    The responsibilities are:

    • Log clients on the daily log sheet; pull file if previous record exists.
    • Assign client to interviewer.
    • Answer telephone, direct call or take message as appropriate.
    • Direct donations to the proper place or person.

  • Interviewer

    An interviewer secures the client’s application for CCM services and processes that application as appropriate per CCM guidelines.

    The responsibilities are:

    • Take written application and verify client’s application as to: residence, employment, income, expenses, and crisis.
    • Provide the services of food and referral for clothing and household items upon evaluation per CCM guidelines.
    • Refer client, as appropriate, to staff.

  • Food Pantry Assistant

    Assists clients as they shop in our "Waste Not, Want Not" pantries. Stock shelves, process food items to be distributed to CCM clients at the Crisis Center or our DSS satellite.

    The responsibilities are:

    • To accept and log in all food contributions brought to “receiving” during your work period and verbally thanking each donor.
    • Shelve food on pantry shelves.
    • Repackage foods that arrive in “bulk”.
    • Bag food per instructions.
    • Make note of buying needs in pantry.
    • Assist clients in making their food selections from a pre-defined food category list.

  • Warehouse Assistant

    Receive donations and assist in warehouse operations. Distribute stock from Crisis Center Pantry to satellite pantries.

  • Drivers

    Drivers are needed to pick up food at area grocery stores once a week.

Samaritan House Soup Kitchen

Do you have a couple of hours each week to give to the Samaritan House Soup Kitchen?

The opportunities are:

  • Assist in preparation, service, and clean up of the noon meal, weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Samaritan House Night Shelter

The Shelter is open 365 days per year and is operated by Cooperative Christian Ministry. All guests are provided a comfortable place to spend the night. We serve dinner and breakfast. Laundry services are available.

CCM is a member of the Carolina Homeless Information Network (CHIN).  As a member of CHIN we use a computerized record keeping system called a Homeless Management Information System ( HMIS ). In order to fully participate, CCM is required to collect some personal information from people who are homeless and seeking shelter at the Night Shelter. Those seeking shelter should refer to the HMIS Participation Notice for information about what is being collected and how it is used.

A paid staff member is on duty from 7:00 pm - 7:00 am to support all volunteers.

My Father's House

My Father's House provides homeless families that have children under the age of 18 with the following services: temporary emergency housing for up to 60 days, food and necessities, case management to assist in housing, employment, mental health, and other identified needs. My Father's House relies on area congregations to provide overnight accommodations and meals for homeless families, while Cooperative Christian Ministry provides staff support and access to other resources.

Interested in volunteering at My Father's House?

The opportunities are:

  • Volunteers are needed to staff the Day Center in Concord on weekdays.  Volunteers work a 3 hour shift one or more times per week. These volunteers provide much needed office/administrative support to the Program Manager. Training will be provided. Interested? Contact dlewis@cooperativeministry.com.

    Monday through Friday, the 3 hour shifts per day are
    7:00am - 10:30am;     10:30am - 1:30pm;    1:30pm - 5:30pm .
     
  • Volunteer Drivers Needed - to drive a 15-passenger van for Church Based Services to Homeless Families (formerly Family Promise of Cabarrus County). Transport guests in 15-passenger van from Day Center in Concord to Host Congregations around Cabarrus County in a safe, reliable and punctual manner. Needed for AM and PM shifts, 7 days per week. Need valid NC drivers license.

  • Evening Meal Provider
  • House Volunteer
  • Life Skills Instructor
  • Children's Activity Coordinator

Philip's Station

If you have a few hours to give to the Philip's Station and are interested in volunteering, the opportunities are:

  • Receive the guests
  • Do the screening
  • Monitor program activities
